  • Master of Science in Economics & Business Administration with focus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Aalborg University, Denmark.
  • PhD in Innovation Management from Technical University of Denmark.

Dr. Ismail brings more than 19 years of global experience as a university academic, innovation consultant, and entrepreneur. Through living and working in nine countries across South Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East, he has developed a deep cross-cultural understanding of diverse academic environments and professional practices. He has previously served as an Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Denmark, King Saud University (Saudi Arabia), Ajman University (UAE), and University of Technology Brunei. He also served as the Founding Director of the Innovation Centre (AUIC) at Ajman University. In addition, he has developed two cloud-based applications designed to assess and strengthen innovation capabilities and innovation ecosystems within organizations, particularly in university settings. His blended experience as an academic, consultant, and entrepreneur across multiple regions enables him to better comprehend complex socio-economic challenges from interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and international perspectives.

Dr. Ismail’s professional and academic research interests within the field of innovation and entrepreneurship focus on:

  • University-based innovation and entrepreneurial (startup) ecosystem development
  • Transformation of traditional universities into innovation-led ‘entrepreneurial universities’
  • Assessment and development of organizational innovation capabilities
  • Intersections of change, creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability
  • Transdisciplinary, impact-driven action research addressing key socio-economic challenges and supporting the UAE ‘Vision 2031’ and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
